Join us on Saturday, June 30, 2018, along with others from the Chicago area, at the Daley Center (Dearborn & Washington) for the Families Belong Together Rally. The goal of the rally is to ask our government representatives for reasonable immigration policy, and to protest the inhumane separation of children from their parents. To begin the day, we will gather at Holy Family Church at 9:00 AM for a short prayer service. Following the prayer service, we will travel as a group to the Daley Center on the #60 Bus (boards at Roosevelt & Racine). Remember, the Holy Family were once themselves a family of immigrants and refugees, fleeing to Egypt to protect the baby Jesus from the danger posed by King Herod. As God’s people, we know in our hearts that the continuing and indefinite separation of parents from their children - some who are still infants - is unacceptable and immoral. As a community of faith, let us raise our voices, along with thousands from the Chicago area and around the nation, to send a strong message to our elected government officials that the current policies are unacceptable. Dear Father Michael, My deepest thanks to you and your parishioners for contributing to the special collection for Catholic Charities on Mother’s Day. Your parish gift brings grace and dignity to children, mothers, families, and elders who are struggling to cope with traumatic life experiences. Because of your kindness, they will have a more secure, self-sufficient future. As we look forward to our second century of service, I am reminded that we would not be where we are without your commitment. Thank you for investing in our charitable mission to help those who are most vulnerable and marginalized. I thank you for your thoughtful support. Sincerely, Rev. Monsignor Michael Boland
On Sunday, July 15, 2018, the 9:45 Mass will mark the conclusion of our 160th anniversary celebration, and the launch of our 161st year as a community of faith. Throughout the past year, we honored our rich history by remembering the priests, religious orders, and families who laid the foundation of Holy Family Church. We will now look toward the future and the continuing unfolding of our story. As part of that story, our doors have opened wide to welcome many new friends who have become part of the Holy Family parish family. At this Mass, it will be our privilege to acknowledge our newest members in a very special way. Following the Mass, all are invited to gather on May Street for a celebration which will include coffee and treats from the Misericordia Bakery Truck.

The word “Hospitality” means the “the warm and generous reception of others.” Hospitality is an act of welcome and an occasion of community. Hospitality seeks to build up the Body of Christ through sharing in fellowship together. Hospitality is a gift we give to one another. It is the relationships that are the foundation of Hospitality, not the refreshments. We are looking for friendly and enthusiastic volunteers who are willing to coordinate occasions of Hospitality following 9:45 Mass on a rotating basis. Coordinating Hospitality will include providing light refreshments in the back of Church, and creative leadership in building and enhancing community through these short gatherings. If you feel called to give of yourself in this way, there is a sign up sheet available in the back of Church where you can indicate your interest or you can sign up online by clicking on the title link or picture. Thank you for considering this invitation to extend and promote God’s gift of Hospitality within this community!
A small piece of Holy Family history has been restored and returned this week - a sanctuary table. The table, estimated to be over 100 years old, was missing a leg, cracked in several places, and in desperate need of repair. Mike Robbins, a Chicago area craftsman and cabinetmaker, brought the table back to its original splendor. According to Deacon Dave, the table is used mainly during Holy Week and for special celebrations.
The 33rd Annual Greater Chicago Food Depository Hunger Walk will take place on Saturday, September 8, 2018, at Jackson Park. The Hunger Walk provides support to the Holy Family Food Pantry in its mission to help those in need in our area. Last year, Holy Family sent its largest group ever to the Walk with over 40 parishioners and St. Ignatius staff and students taking part in the event. So mark your calendar, and plan to join us this year. Please click on the title link or picture for a video of last year's event, and keep checking the website and/or bulletin for more information about the 2018 Hunger Walk in the coming weeks.
