The priests of the Little Italy grouping, Father Kevin (Notre Dame), Father Richard (Our Lady of Pompeii), Father Connor (UIC Newman Center) and Fr. Mike will be spending this coming Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at the Mundelein Retreat House preparing for the up coming Renew My Church process. After this meeting, Fr. Mike and the Holy Family staff will begin selecting our Discernment Team members. Please pray for us as we enter this time of preparation. As we move through this process, Fr. Mike and the staff will continue to share with the parish all the different parts of Renew My Church. As we launch our 161st year, I want to thank all those who worked so hard to celebrate the 160th throughout this last year. Beginning with the Anniversary Mass last July, then the Mass of Remembrance, and on to The Feast of the Holy Family. Through the year, we celebrated baptisms and weddings and honored married couples. Today, at the 161st, we are recognizing new families who have just joined the parish. Thank you!!! I’d like to especially thank the staff and all those who worked so hard organizing these events. Most of all, I want to Thank God for the movement of grace in the life of this parish over all its years. When we make God the center of our lives, we realize God’s love and grace are more than enough for us. And when we listen carefully to the Word of God, our imaginations are filled with images and stories of God’s infinite love for us. Every time that we break bread at Mass, we know it is Jesus, the Bread that feeds our souls with the gift of himself and shows his wonderful love for us. We see the mutual love and affection of every parish family, when we see the face of God in strangers. God continues to open our eyes to a deeper reality and another dimension of life. Peace, Fr. Mike
Jesus Christ calls us to constantly renew His Church. Renew My Church is the Archdiocese of Chicago’s response to His call and our personal invitation for renewal. It is a journey that is both spiritual (to re-encounter Jesus Christ as disciples and parish communities) and structural (to ensure our communities have adequate resources for vitality). Addressing current challenges, needs and opportunities in today’s society, including a trending crisis of faith, Renew My Church will bring new and sustainable life to our local Church. We are sent forth on mission to: Make Disciples, Build Communities, and Inspire Witness. These mission imperatives guide all that we do in and through the spiritual and structural renewal of Renew My Church. This renewal is too big for any one of us. We need to do this together. Over the months and years to come, we will be called in various ways to do our part to make disciples, build communities, and inspire witness. Specifically, for our parish, beginning this summer we will work very closely with Notre Dame, The Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii, Children of Peace School, and the UIC Newman Center as one grouping to discern and decide how we can best make disciples, build community and inspire witness together. More details will be shared in the coming weeks and months on the parish's Renew my Church webpage. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process where you can explore and experience the Catholic faith community. It is an opportunity to learn about the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church in a comfortable and welcoming environment. Are you a person who has not been baptized and would like to learn more about the Catholic faith with the possibility of becoming Catholic; a Baptized Christian of another denomination who would like to learn about and possibly join the Catholic tradition; or, a Baptized Roman Catholic who has not received the sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation and would like to become a full participant in the life of the Church? The Christian Initiation process offers support and guidance as you seek to discover how God is working in your life. If you or an adult you know is interested in the RCIA process or have questions, please speak to Fr. Mike or Jim Bruton or feel free to contact Jim at [email protected]. Sessions will be scheduled at the convenience of those wishing to participate, so if interested, please contact us and let us know your scheduling needs. We look forward to hearing from you!
